Bodega Sarmentero
Our Story
Bodega Sarmentero is located in the tiny town of Quintanilla de Arriba where the population was just 226 in 2004. Sarmentero's vineyards are in the heart of the Ribera del Duero wine region. They own 7 hectares, growing Tempranillo exclusively. The Sarmentero winery dates back more than 7 decades when the family acquired a property that was dedicated to various agricultural activities including the production of wheat, barley, cattle breeding, and production of wines for personal consumption. Over the years, they have steadily accumulated experience and honed their wine making skills from one generation to the next. In 2004, Amparo Repiso, the fourth-generation wine maker, decided to pursue her dream to bring the winery to the next level. She produced a single barrel of wine--60 gallons (270 liters) in all. Then, as the saying goes, "the rest is history" ... The wine was so well received that they continued to build on the success, increasing production and, in 2013, renovated the facilities into a modern structure that efficiently integrated the entire wine making operation. Today, Sarmentero is a proud success story with wines reaching many parts of the world. It is their passion and love of the land that lead them into sustainable, non-aggressive practices that ultimately comes through to their award-winning products.
